Let’s start with an introduction and a bit of a backstory on yours truly.

I have my BS (heh, bullshit) in Business Management and I utilize that degree as an Executive Assistant as my career. Incredibly practical, versatile and useful, but not creative.

I have always been crafty. Artsy, eh, not so much. I ‘majored’ in Art in high school, but all it consisted of was drawing still life portraits, and I can’t draw well at all.

I’ve taught myself to sew and crochet, but neither ‘do it’ for me. You know what does? Making jewelry and accessories.

I opened an Etsy shop in 2015 that focused on acrylic pieces. The pieces were beautifully detailed (thanks to my ever talented boyfriend), but as time went on, the overhead costs (hello BS in Management!) became a serious annoyance and products weren’t moving as fast as my impatient ass would have liked.

Over the years, I have had a shit ton of failed attempts at making my ideas come to life.  Then, in the summer of 2016, as I was working to revamp the acrylic pieces I had, I discovered printable shrink plastic (aka shrinkydinks) and it blew my damn mind.

Suddenly, all the ideas I’ve had over the years that I couldn’t figure out how to make work in a way that I was comfortable with flooded my mind. I became inspired in such a way that I could only describe as stupid.  Stupid inspired.

In the midst of revamping the shop and experimenting with the new medium, I was approached to sell at a craft show. I had told myself that I would wait a year before even looking into shows, but this opportunity crashed into me, so I went for it! It was a crazy few weeks. I made well over 100 unique items, and you know what? People loved them! I’ve never gotten such a positive reaction from something I’ve made before, so it was incredibly exciting and, at the same time, humbling.

2017 is here and with that comes another shop revamp, as well as more and more new products getting brought to life.

So, needless to say, my shop, Little Black Bats, has become a rather big part of my life, and I’ve spent probably enough time talking the ears off my friends and family. Hence, this blog. I’ve decided to use this as a place to ramble, talk, rant about my passion, about the very thing I love to do and think about all the time, from the second I wake up in the morning until I go to bed at night.

With all the thoughts and ideas swimming through my mind, I need somewhere to sort things out, and if I get readers along the way, then that’s just a stellar bonus!
